The Pencil Case That Writes

The Pencil Case That Writes

An oversized hex pencil that opens: nine printed parts, no glue and no hardware. It stores your pencils inside, and the tip is a real three-jaw chuck at 15 degrees, so you can clamp an actual pencil in it and write with the whole case. Five revisions, every one of them driven by something that came back wrong off a printed part.

The Material

Why it is printed in PLA.

PLA is the everyday material: crisp detail, a clean finish and good dimensional accuracy. It is the right choice indoors and the wrong one in a hot car or in direct sun, where it softens and eventually sags.

Choosing the material by price rather than by where the part has to live is the single most common reason a printed part fails in service. It is named on every listing and in every quote for that reason, and if a different material suits your use better we will say so before you pay for the wrong one.

How It Is Made

Printed to order, in New Brunswick.

Nothing here sits on a shelf. Each one is printed when it is ordered, which is why the colour, the size and the material are all still open questions at the point you ask rather than fixed by whatever a warehouse happens to hold.

This one is roughly 27 hours on the machine, so it is usually an overnight job at 192 g of material. There is no tooling cost and no minimum quantity, so a single piece is a normal order. The design is ours, drawn in-house.

Questions

Straight answers.

Can I get the The Pencil Case That Writes in a different colour?

The colours listed are the ones we hold: Orange, Black, White, Grey. If you want something else, ask. We can usually source a filament for a specific colour, and on a made-to-order part there is no reason not to.

Can you change the size or modify it?

Yes, and that is normal here rather than a special request. Everything is made to order from parametric geometry, so a dimension change is a number, not a redesign. Tell us what has to fit and send a measurement.

How long does it take?

Printing is roughly 27 hours on the machine, so it is usually an overnight job. Add the queue and shipping: most orders leave within two to three business days of you approving the price, and expedited shipping is available when the date is not negotiable.

Do you make things that are not in the shop?

That is most of the work. Broken, discontinued, or never made in the first place. Send a photo of the part or the gap it fills and one rough measurement, and you get a fixed price back within a day, read and answered by a person.
